Reviving Wagga’s Jazz Scene

To celebrate International Jazz Day on the the 30th of April, The Curious Rabbit and the Wagga Wagga Civic Theatre are putting on a series of events from Friday the 28th through to Sunday the 30th April.

Friday night at The Curious Rabbit features Mark Bolsius and Stephen O’Connell. Mark Bolsius and Stephen O'Connell are a dynamic combination of piano with saxophone creating original dynamic music together.

They are both professional and experienced musicians who will bring to Wagga the most memorable concert experience in our small space as part of the International Jazz Day celebrations.

On Saturday we head to The Civic Theatre for a concert ‘Everyone Loves Jazz’ headlined by local sensations Hannah Grace and the Low Flyers. They will be supported by the Riverina Saxophone Trio; Guitar Feast - a five-piece guitar band from the Conservatorium of Music and the newly formed Duck Duck Duck Goose - a band featuring musicians Louise Baker on flute, Brianna Seary on bass, Jess Parker on guitar and Maria Tynan on clarinet. All of these acts aim to inspire a new generation of jazz musicians.

On Sunday to celebrate International Jazz Day we have a performance by the KB3 & 1/3 band and the opportunity for a jazz jam with acclaimed jass pianist Dom Vella. Dom Vella will be performing a number of classic jazz tunes and some originals. The stage will be open to a few walk-in artists too. Dom will also do some workshopping with the audience for those who want to know more about any aspect of performance, such as the history of jazz, how to participate with other musicians, how to interpret lead sheets, and how to stop using them too.

The KB3 & 1/2 band comprises Wayne Pigrim, Klaus Buzzman, and Greg Gilmore with friends. An eclectic and electric Jazz!

Show Wagga you love Jazz and help reignite the local scene.
