The Curious Playwright Competition for Women
Do you have a play looking for an audience, an idea for a script that needs to be realised, or have a manuscript you need inspiration to complete?

The Curious Playwright Competition for Women* aims to give voice to the stories of this generation in regional NSW and to bring into the spotlight important works that have been crafted for the Curious.
The Curious Rabbit enjoys plays that encourage curiosity, - learning, growing, and evolving together as a community. We look for work that cries out to be performed in a theatrical setting. Whether your script is an experiment in form, a comedy, a drama, a work about historical characters, or a new translation, we support rich and compelling creative work with high quality artistic effort.
Submissions are welcome from 1st December 2021 and close on Sunday 20 February 2022. They will be read by a committee of writers, theatre artists, and producers.
The Judge’s Shortlist will be announced on 13 March 2022, during International Women’s Week, when women are celebrated and honoured all around the world. Excerpts will be published to The Curious Rabbit’s website.
At The Curious Rabbit we believe woman can mean many things. We recognise that ‘woman’ can include many aspects of the gender spectrum. We want to create a safer space for the expression and growth for all women, and gender non binary individuals.
The Competition
There will be 3 winners
- The Judges choice, The Most Curious and The People's Choice -
The Judges Choice will be judged by a committee of writers, theatre artists, and producers.
The Most Curious will be chosen by a panel from The Curious Rabbit, using the Judges shortlist.
The People's choice will be awarded to the play; that secures the most individual votes via The Curious Rabbits online publication of The judge’s Shortlist, and will be finalised at the live play reading of all finalists on Sunday the 20th of March 2022.
Winner’s will receive
A professional staging of the script or excerpts of the script by The Vaudeville Collective as part of their 2022/2023 season, allowing for publication and distribution.
A share in a cash prize
A gift voucher from The Civic Theatre
